Telephone Number-to-Location API Example
The [true knowledge] API allows you to find out the geographical location of a landline telephone number.
An example application is call routing in an international call centre.
This service, in combination with our location-to-language service
could be used to determine the location of the caller from the telephone number and subsequently determine the likely language of the caller
from the location. The system could then route the call to an operator who speaks the determined language.
Given any telephone number in the world, we can extract information
from the country code. In addition to that, if the number is from
any of the following 82 countries then we can either extract more
specific information or ascertain that this data is not encoded in
the number.
If the country is in the left-hand list, then we can obtain a
region of the country such as a state or county. For the middle list,
the country code tells us that they are somewhere in North America, and
we use the area code to narrow that down to a country. The right-hand list
is of places that do not use area codes at all, so we know that it is not
possible to obtain location data more specific than the country.
