True Knowledge launches platform for developers

14th April 2009

CAMBRIDGE, U.K. True Knowledge
(www.trueknowledge.com), a search company
pioneering a new approach to natural language search, today announces the launch of the True
Knowledge Application Platform. Developers looking for semantic search capabilities can now utilize True
Knowledge’s natural language query processing functionality in third-party applications and web sites to
provide accurate and direct answers to end users.

True Knowledge offers two distinct API services for developers: the “Direct Answer API” and the “Query
API”. The Direct Answer API allows developers to leverage True Knowledge’s natural language question
answering technology, giving any search site or application the ability to provide a single direct answer for
questions asked on any subject in plain English. This is especially well suited to mobile applications
where providing a lengthy list of search results may be impractical.

The Query API allows developers to bypass True Knowledge’s natural language translation system and
directly query True Knowledge’s knowledge base using a simple query language. This allows automated
systems such as web and mobile applications to tap into True Knowledge’s vast machine-understandable
knowledge of the world, making them behave more intelligently.

“True Knowledge is building one of the most exciting things on the internet” said William Tunstall-Pedoe,
founder and CEO of True Knowledge, “Our platform models the world in a way that is readily
understandable by computers so that even questions that have never been asked before can be
understood and answered. We are delighted to be making this technology available to a broader
community”.

True Knowledge is able to answer questions asked in plain English because of its unique approach to
structured and lexical knowledge. By using an ever-growing database of more than 130 million facts
about more than 4.5 million objects, classes, attributes and relations, True Knowledge is able to infer
trillions of additional facts and provide direct, perfect responses to questions. True Knowledge also
reliably knows when it does not understand or cannot answer a question. In situations like these, True
Knowledge enables the partnering application or site to provide an alternative response, such as its
native set of search results.

Both API services allow HTTP requests and provide responses in XML. More details and a free API
account can be obtained at http://www.trueknowledge.com/developer.
