Although the population of Fort McMurray in 2011 is estimated to be around 80,000 people, that does not give us an accurate picture. Depending on how busy the oil patch is there can be anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 additional people residing in one of the many camps in close proximity to the city. Just one of these camps are projecting having 8,800 rooms available in late 2011 alone. In essence Fort McMurray has around 100,000 people and as long as oil prices don't crash will likely have 250,000 by the year 2020.
