The population you are presenting is the city proper. The urban area is well over 1.000.000. It is propably 1.100.000. The Prefecture is a little more (apr. 1.180.000), as most of the prefecture's population lives in the city. The 2011 census in Greece is being held these days. We' ll see the exact numbers soon.
