What is the difference between a domestic dog (any dog from a breed or mixture of breeds commonly kept as pets, not any other member of the dog family like a fox, wolf or coyote) and a cat, also known as the domestic cat or housecat to distinguish it from other felines and felids, a small domesticated carnivorous mammal that is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to hunt vermin and household pests?
