Conan Doyle was a keen supporter of the work of the Society of Psychical Research. After his physical death, some enthusiasts for that sort of thing thought that Conan Doyle's own spirit survived and communicated to others through automatic writing. The Library of Congress Name Authority File thus includes an entry for 'Doyle, Arthur Conan Sir 1859-1930 (Spirit)': see http://www.worldcat.org/identities/lccn-n85-12690
